Frequent questions
What phones/iPod does GPSRecorder work with?
GPSRecorder works on the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.
Does GPSRecorder need a network connection (Edge, 3G or Wifi)?
GPSRecorder does not need an internet connection to record your tracks. It works by itself to locate you and record locally your location. To review or export your tracks, a network connection is necessary as the maps are downloaded from Google Maps and the export feature uses your email address.BUT if you don't have a network connection, you need to have an open sky to capture GPS signal from 6 satellites. To make sure it works, we test the app with 'aiplane mode' (no network at all) on.
GPSRecorder needs a network connection if you want to see instant map
What about data roaming?
If you keep "Data abroad" off (or whatever the name of the setting is), your iPhone won't download data on the internet. It has been tested and the GPS still works perfectly. But you don't have any map until you reach a free wifi hotspot or come back to your country.
Is GPSRecorder precise?
GPSRecorder is as precise as your iPhone, thus can be as precise as 10 meters. To reach that precision, you need a very good environment : outdoors, the iPhone visible from the sky, not many movements, and you need to wait a bit. You can set the recording of tracks to occur only when accuracy is better thant 100m. This is the default setting. If you want to record as frequently as possible, and in difficult situation (indoors etc), you can unset this precise recording. Starting with version 1.8, the horizontal accuracy of records is recorded too and exported as a pdop attribute in the gps version
How many points can I record?
No limits. The trackpoints are recorded on the go in a database, everything is kept on the phone even if the application stops. If you export a very big database of points, the file is not directly sent to you (mail is not built for large files), but you can download it on the server.
How long can I record?
In ideal accuracy situation, the battery should last as long as 12 hours in my personal tests. The key is to let the screen switch off alone. This can change if you use your iPhone for other things (mail, music etc). With the 2.2 version of the OS, it is now possible to extend the battery life while recording as the screen can switch off and the GPS can continue working. BUT! if you press the top button to switch off yourself the screen, the GPS chip stops. DON'T PRESS THE TOP BUTTON
I don't like the app, can I get a reimbursement?
Before buying, you should have looked at all the videos and screenshots available. You can still have your money back, but not from us directly. You need to ask Apple, by following the support links available in iTunes Store.
